Thailand’s recent expansion of its premeditated attacks into Cambodia’s Pursat province is further proof of its aggressive intent and blatant disregard for de-escalation. This deliberate move underscores Thailand’s ambitions to invade Cambodian territory rather than seek peace.
There are only two plausible explanations for this latest act of hostility:
1. A Tactical Diversion for Leverage:
The Thai military appears to have failed in its primary objective capturing the contested and strategically significant area of Phnom Trop, Prasat Ta Muen Thom, and Prasat Ta Krabei. By striking other provinces, Thailand may be attempting to distract Cambodia’s defense forces and stretch our defense lines thin, hoping to gain bargaining chips for future negotiations. However, Cambodia leaders are resolute in prioritizing the defense of the contested zones. They have clearly said that if Thailand openly enters, especially through checkpoints like Poi Pet, it will reveal Thailand’s lies to the world. Cambodian leadership has even challenged Thailand to “come through Poi Pet with open doors” to reveal their true intentions.
2. An Unprovoked Violation of Cambodia’s Sovereignty:
Alternatively, this is nothing more than an unjustifiable and unprovoked invasion into Cambodia’s sovereign territory, an act of aggression with no strategic or moral legitimacy.
Regardless of which scenario holds true, Cambodia is fully prepared to respond, both militarily and diplomatically. Under the leadership of a West Point–trained Prime Minister with Ph.D in Economics, guided by the wisdom of seasoned military strategists, Cambodia stands ready to counter Thailand’s baseless aggression with resolute military and diplomatic response. As citizens, Cambodian also have a duty: to confront the biased narratives spread by mainstream media and ensure the truth of Cambodia’s defense and sovereignty is heard loud and clear.
